o Discuss who God’s grace has appeared for and why it is essential to understand this.
1. According to Titus 2:11–14, what does it mean to be mentored?
2. How has wrong teaching concerning the end times negatively impacted the Church? What should we be doing as we wait for Jesus to return?
3. Discuss what it means to be redeemed from lawlessness and purified as a people for God’s own possession, according to Titus 2:14. What is holiness?
4. Discuss the different aspects of the Gospel message. Why is it important to embrace and teach the entirety of the salvation that Jesus provided for us?
5. What does Dr. Zadai mean by auditing yourself daily, and why is it important?
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
—Titus 2:11
DISCUSSION:
This week, we will discuss the truth that God's grace has appeared, and the Lord has shown His favor to us through Jesus Christ. We will be studying Titus 2:11–14, which I will break down for you as much as possible. In this time that we live in, God has displayed His favor and grace to us. In other words, salvation is a gift the Lord has freely given, which includes everything He has done for us through Jesus Christ. We must understand God's grace that has appeared before us.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works.
—Titus 2:11–14 ESV
Let’s dive into this rich passage of Scripture. I believe at the end of this fellowship, you will gain greater understanding through this verse. God's grace appearing is the truth that through Jesus, the Lord brought salvation for everyone. His grace is revealed through this salvation for all people, which means no one is excluded. In other words, there are not those who are destined to hell and those who are destined to Heaven. Through Jesus, provision has been made for everyone to go to Heaven. There is no need for anyone to go to hell, even though people go there every day.
We can stop this by announcing the grace of God that has appeared.
o Discuss who God’s grace has appeared for and why it is essential to understand this.
ALLOWING OURSELVES TO BE PURIFIED
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
—2 John 2:15 ESV
Salvation or deliverance has come through Jesus Christ. As we discussed, this grace has appeared for everyone. Paul wrote his letter to Titus, whom he was mentoring at the time. Titus 2:12 trains us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions. So, this mentorship includes renouncing the things of the world—one of those is ungodliness, and another is worldly passions. Once we've renounced those two things, we are also instructed to live a self-controlled, upright, and godly life in this present age. Remember these three characteristics: Self-controlled, upright, and godly.
We renounce first, and then we are called to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age. Next, Titus 2:13 says we are waiting for our blessed hope, which is the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to “purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works.” In addition to understanding renunciation and how to live, we must know that we have that blessed hope to hold us over until Jesus does come.
Through Jesus, we have been given hope. Then Paul continued in Titus 2:14, where he expressed that Jesus gave Himself for us so that we would have redemption. This means we can approach the Lord and state that we want our inheritance. We are called to redeem the covenant. It's as if paperwork has been given to you to hand over and receive a reward. We have been redeemed and pulled out of the lawlessness that's in the world. This passage also states that Jesus has come to purify for Himself a people. We must acknowledge that a cleansing and a process are taking place.
WE ARE GOD’S OWN POSSESSION
We must understand that we are not just waiting for Jesus to return; we should allow ourselves to be redeemed from lawlessness and purified. This is a process that's happening all the time. I'm constantly feeling like I'm being pulled out of or redeemed out of the lawlessness of this world. I also sense that there's a purifying fire continuously burning in my life because God is getting me ready. He's preparing us all because we're His possession. We are made holy because Jesus bought us and separated us unto Himself.
Holiness results from God taking us to His own house—His dwelling place—as His own possession. Now, you have to get this: You must be convinced that we are holy because we are God’s own possession. We have been purchased and brought into His house, which should cause us to be zealous for good works. In other words, we do not do things to buy God, get favor from Him, or convince Him that He should love us. We do good works because we are His possession; we've been bought and are redeemed. Essentially, we have turned in our paperwork and have been taken out of the lawlessness of this world.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
—Romans 12:2
As you renew your mind, you will start to see why believers are still here on the earth. When I was first born again, I used to focus on just going to Heaven. In response to everything happening in the world, the prophecy teachers, ministers, and pastors taught us that we were coming to the end. I've heard that message of the end times for over 40 years. Then I finally realized that we're not just supposed to be sitting around, waiting for Jesus to return and get us. We are supposed to be telling others about redemption through Christ and training them to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions.
