o Why is the Holy Spirit described as our advocate and counselor?
1. How do demons try to perpetuate curses in families? Discuss how, according to 2 Corinthians 3:17, the Holy Spirit brings liberty.
2. Discuss the role of the Holy Spirit to the world and to believers, according to John 16:7–15.
3. When a nation chooses not to follow God, what does He do? How does God treat His remnant people who choose to yield to Him?
4. We are not called to fix the church or people. According to this study, who are we called to reach out to, and what should we do to demonstrate the love of God?
5. How does understanding that the Holy Spirit has no limits encourage you to do the greater works that Jesus called us to do?
But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor,
Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in
My name [in my place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything
that I have taught you.

DISCUSSION:
This week we will discuss the Holy Spirit as our lawyer. This comes from John 14:26, when Jesus said He would send One who is an advocate or a standby. The word advocate comes from the idea of a defense lawyer. A defense lawyer is a counselor who notifies defendants of their rights and advocates for them in court.
This is what the Holy Spirit does for us.
The Holy Spirit will defend you by informing you of your rights and the pending justice in your case. As long as you yield to the Holy Spirit's advice, you will be fine. This is the way it is with a lawyer. Lawyers want you to know everything, so they coach you, guiding you on what to say and what not to say in court. Essentially, the lawyer speaks on your behalf. When in court, you defer to your lawyer, relying on them to represent you well.
o Why is the Holy Spirit described as our advocate and counselor?
THE HOLY SPIRIT ENFORCES COVENANT BLESSINGS
Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
—2 Corinthians 3:17
The Lord is the Spirit; wherever He is, there is freedom. The Holy Spirit enforces the covenant and blessing, whereas evil spirits enforce curses. Demons desire to transfer through your family bloodline to continue propagating those curses. However, if you allow the Holy Spirit to enforce the blessing, He breaks the curse.
He causes freedom to come so you're no longer shackled in bondage.
Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My father and you see Me no more; of judgement, because the ruler of the world is judged.
I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.
—John 16:7–15
In John 16:7–15, Jesus tells the disciples, "It is to your advantage that I go away. For if I do not go away, the Helper will not come." The Helper is the Holy Spirit, our Advocate, and Counselor. Jesus had to depart in order to send Him to us. He had to go back to Heaven, then send the Holy Spirit in His place; that's the legal way.
Jesus listed several things that the Holy Spirit would do when He came. He would convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. The conviction of sin is because the world does not believe in Jesus. This is referring to unbelievers, not Christians. The Holy Spirit's role in the world is to reveal factors that pertain to righteousness and judgment because they don't believe in Him. In 80–90% of the world, that's what's happening.
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS OUR COUNSELOR, ADVOCATE, AND STANDBY
The Father is the supreme Judge of all. Jesus is also our advocate since He argues our case to the Father. He represents us and intercedes on our behalf (Romans 8:34). The Holy Spirit has been sent to dwell in our hearts; He leads, guides, and counsels us. John 16:13 says that when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide us into all truth, which means reality. You must realize that the Holy Spirit is absolute truth, and He is not holding anything back from us.
When I was in Heaven, I saw that many people, including myself, were deceived. I didn't understand that the Holy Spirit leads us in all truth, which is available to us. The scripture says that He's going to lead you into all truth. Many Christians do not accept this, but the Holy Spirit can even show you things to come. He will reveal hidden wisdom and guide you. Even though the world will be judged, believers will not. You will be led by the Holy Spirit, who will guide you into all truth.
The Holy Spirit does not speak on His own authority; He only reveals what the Father says to Him. He will not speak on his own, just like Jesus didn't speak on His own (John 12:49). He will tell you of things to come and warn you ahead of time. The Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus. He's going to take what is of the Lord and declare it to you. He will remind you of things that Jesus said. The Holy Spirit will take what the Father is transferring from Himself and give it to you. Therefore, Jesus said, He will take what's Mine and declare it unto you (John 16:15).
Even though Jesus is in Heaven, nothing has stopped the transfer to us. He has left the earth, ascended to Heaven, and is now seated on high. The Holy Spirit is now the One who is our counselor, our advocate, and our standby. He's interceding for us and helping us pray, say the right things, and do what's right. He's allowing us to rest in peace while He coordinates with the angels concerning the plan of God for your life. This is the absolute truth that I saw in Heaven. So when I declare all this to you by the scriptures I've shared, you should sense peace welling up in your heart.
GOD ONLY GOVERNS THOSE WHO YIELD, NOT THE WORLD
But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear.
—Matthew 13:16
You also must understand that God has your life under His control, yet He is not in control of the world. God doesn't control the world like you think because John 16:8 says that the Holy Spirit has come to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. This doesn't sound like they are obeying God in any way. If people are disobedient, God is not in control there, and you will see manifestations of that rebellion.
