After you watch the video and read the study notes below, answer these questions here on the Fellowship Project Blog Posting link on this page:
1. Inquire: David inquired of the Lord, asking, “Will You deliver them into my hand?” Do you ask God first before you go to battle for someone or something? Why?
2. Wait for an answer: The Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.” Do you respectfully wait on God for an answer? Why?
3. Obey and Confront: David went to Baal Perazim and defeated them there; and he said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.” Discuss this and how you would apply it.
Breakthrough:
“It’s time to believe to the point of fighting back. Let the Lord of the
Breakthrough rise up and begin to confront that which is challenging you in your life. The Lord is a consuming fire! Let Him burn outward through you.”
~ Kevin Zadai
Our hero, come and rescue us!
O God of the breakthrough, for the glory of your name, come and help us! Forgive and restore us; heal us and cover us in your love.
—Psalms 79:9 TPT
DISCUSSION:
Breakthrough is what you need when you realize that you need to get through barriers and limitations. Many times in my life, I have had to ask God, “Is this a limitation, or is this a barrier? Is it a boundary to help me, or is it from the enemy?” As a believer, you have to discern if something is placed there by God or coming from the enemy.
One of the biggest things that we have to deal with is knowing our limitations and whether we need to surpass or breakthrough. That’s why Jesus talked about speaking to the mountains. People will ask me, “What is your mountain?” and I will say, “Anything that is in the way, or anything that’s not supposed to be there.” Jesus would not tell you to move it unless He wanted it to go.
Jesus said that you can speak to this mountain, and it will be removed (see Mark 11:23). By saying this, He was showing us that there are no limitations on that kind of prayer. If you need a breakthrough, and you have been struggling, maybe it’s in your flesh or a satanic attack, then it’s time for you to stand up and say, “I am going through because the Lord has told me to go through.” When Joshua and Caleb came back from spying out the Promised Land, they had a good report.
“Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, ‘Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it’” (see Numbers 13:30).
* Realize that what you are experiencing is not right, and then stand up and fight.
* Confront what is challenging you.
* Let the Lord rise up and burn through you.
2 Samuel 5:17-19: “Now when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went down to the stronghold. The Philistines also went and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.”
2 Samuel 5:19-23: “So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore he called the name of that place Baal Perazim. And they left their images there, and David and his men carried them away. Then the Philistines went up once again and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim.”
2 Samuel 5:24-25: “Therefore David inquired of the Lord, and He said, ‘You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the Lord will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.’ And David did so, as the Lord commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.”
* King David called God the God of the breakthrough or the Lord of the breakthrough, and he called Him, Baal-Perazim, which means “the Lord who bursts through” (see Psalm 79:9 TPT).
* David would only go up to fight the Philistines if the Lord told him to go, and went with him and delivered them into Davids’s hands.
* He would only go if it were rigged for him to win.
* When David defeated them, he called that place Baal Perazim.
* The next time the Philistines came to fight, the Lord told David not to go up to them this time but to circle around behind them. God then gave David a strategy and plan.
* David was told to wait until he heard the rustling in the mulberry trees and the sound of marching on top of them, and then advance from behind. The rustling in the mulberry trees were the angel armies that God used.
BREAKTHROUGH BATTLE STRATEGIES
There are times where the strategy of the Lord for you is not to do anything. It puzzles the enemy when you don’t react right away. Sometimes the Lord will have you bring another person into the situation that causes the breakthrough to occur because it confuses the enemy. When you circumvent the enemy’s plans, the evil spirits don’t have a plan B. They are trying to get things done as quickly as possible with as much damage as they can and with the least effort. They cast doubt and fear into people to motivate them by doubt and fear. David inquired of the Lord, and this is what we need to do also. We need to pray and ask God for help. Ask Him what He wants you to do. God is against your enemies, and He is going to fight and defeat them. The battle strategy that He might use is really up to Him, and you must understand Him.
One of my best friends told me the Holy Spirit might lead you in the opposite direction that you were going. Jesus also told me this in a vision when He appeared to me in the operating room when I passed away: He instructed me that sometimes you have to be unhooked from the world and the situation. You might be going in the opposite direction that you need to go. My friend Jesse Duplantis said that sometimes the Lord will send you off in a different direction than the enemy expected. The enemy is waiting for you where he presupposed you would show up and then finds that you are not there. It’s a strategy used to outfox the devil.
At times the Lord will use angels to cause breakthrough. There are different types of angels. Some record things and keep track of what is happening, and others are sent to steer us in a certain direction. They expedite or bring you into situations that follow the perceived will of God for your life, and not our perceived will. Other angels operate like special forces to help you with your breakthrough.
I have encountered angels that have shown up because they witnessed me praying. One time I was praying in my backyard, and I walked through what felt like a thick presence. I felt like I was walking through a crowd of people. I opened my eyes—my spiritual eyes, and all of a sudden, there were all these glowing angels. There were over 30 of them. There happened to be a well-known evangelist who had recently come into my town, and they decided to choose my backyard as their command center for the weekend. I had even thought about this evangelist earlier.
The Lord will steer you in a direction that He wants you to go. He will prompt you to go to a Bible study or a meeting because you may encounter breakthrough there. The whole time the angel on assignment knows to get you there! God uses battle strategies to bring about breakthrough.
* God’s anointing is a battle strategy He uses for breakthrough.
* Angelic activity is a strategy God will use.
* Inquiring of the Lord to give you secret strategies and tell you what to do is how He brings you to breakthrough.

2. Wait for an answer: The Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.” Do you respectfully wait on God for an answer? Why?

Hebrews 12:29 (TPT): “For our God is a holy, devouring fire!”
1 Timothy 6:12 (TPT): “So fight with faith for the winner’s prize! Lay your hands upon eternal life, for this is your calling—celebrating in faith before the multitude of witnesses.”
God wants you to be His person in your neighborhood, city, country, and wherever you are. He placed you there for a purpose. God wants you to walk in authority and dominion to allow the Lord to implement His plans and purposes for people. You are called to be a part of that plan, and you must take your authority in Christ Jesus!
