After you watch the video and read the study notes below, answer these questions here:
What are some ways you can manage yourself when dealing with the enemy who is working through someone?
What will you choose this day, the Spirit or the flesh? Why? How will you live in the ways of God?
What kind of fruit is produced when choosing the way of the Spirit? How do you yield to the Spirit?
1. What were some of the main events in your life where you chose to fulfill the flesh? The Spirit? What were the outcomes?
2. How can walking in the power of God be a form of warfare against the enemy?
In what ways can you exercise His authority and power in your life?
3. How does God’s will differ from people’s will?
4. DISCUSS: Those who belong to Jesus have nailed their passions and desires of their sinful natures to the cross and have been crucified there.
5. DISCUSS: How resurrection power is living in you. How did it get there?
Discuss the manifestations of resurrection power and John G. Lake.
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. There is no law against these things! Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.
— Galatians 5:16-26 (NLT)
DISCUSSION:
God arranges things behind the scenes. He has His Angels working, and He has the Holy Spirit working within us. He has a plan. The steps were predetermined before you were even born. If anything is in your way that is contrary or against what God's will is for your life, you have the authority to take it out by using the name of Jesus.
It's a supernatural setup when we encounter things that are contrary. If something is contrary in your life, you can allow Jesus Christ inside of you to rise up and speak through you. He can get rid of all those blockages in your life. One of the things that Paul talks about is living in God's power.
When we think of warfare, we often think of wrestling demons, but sometimes we're dealing with other people's wills, which is witchcraft as well. Many people are involved with witchcraft, and they don't even know it. Evil spirits can get into people's souls and take them off course.
• When you're going through things, it's usually a demon that's influenced someone, and then those people are the ones that do the evil.
• The demon has just put that suggestion into them.
• Many times, you’re not fighting a demon; you're fighting someone whose will is against what God is doing. There's not much you can do about that.
• Sometimes people over you make decisions for you that are wrong, and you find yourself suffering for the ungodliness that's in the world today.
• Paul talks about a supernatural power and a supernatural setup and yielding to the spirit versus yielding to the flesh.
• That is warfare, too. It's not just a spiritual thing where we're wrestling demons all the time.
• We often deal with people in their souls, and you must take out the demon behind that. You must get rid of that influence.
• What you're encountering are people's souls. You're encountering people that are making bad decisions.
• Paul says, don't be one of those people that make bad decisions that yield to the flesh.
• He says, "Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives; then you won't be doing what the sinful nature wants or craves.
• The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is the opposite of what the Spirit desires.” Nothing good comes from yielding to the flesh.
• Paul says, “Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living this sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” This is what Paul has drawn the line for.
Paul is an Apostle, and he's speaking to all the churches. Even though he speaks in this letter to the Galatians, he wrote these letters from jail to everyone. Many of the manuscripts will show different churches up in the right-hand corner, but they passed these letters onto all the churches. Paul is telling the Christians that if you live like this if you manifest these things and you're habitually in the flesh and living in sin, you will not inherit the Kingdom of God. We don't hear many ministers saying this anymore because many people would be insulted. It would pressure the minister to back off or continue in it and maybe lose people in their congregations. Jesus wasn't worried about that, and neither was Paul. Paul was in jail by himself, so he didn't care what people thought. He was speaking what God told him to say and do. Paul says, “The kind of fruit that the Holy Spirit produces is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, and there is no law against these things. Those who belong to Jesus have nailed their passions and desires of their sinful nature to the cross and have been crucified there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let's follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited or provoke one another or be jealous of one another.”
What are some ways you can manage yourself when dealing with the enemy who is working through someone?
THE FLESH VS THE SPIRIT OF GOD
• You have a choice; you can either yield to the flesh or yield to the spirit.
• When Paul mentions the flesh, he mentions witchcraft and sorcery as being part of the flesh.
• If you yield to these things, they’ll manifest in the flesh.
• God has set it up for you to win, and He set it up for you to have supernatural power. You have it, and it’s right there inside of you.
• Jesus rose from the dead, and Paul said that the same power that rose Jesus from the dead is dwelling in you.
• In a flash of lightning, the same power that rose Jesus from the dead could manifest in you.
• The resurrection power in you causes the manifestations of God to happen in your life. It’s not just for special people, but those who walk in God’s will.
• To walk in that kind of power, you have to say no to the manifestations of the flesh which are, lying, cheating, jealousy, quarreling, lustful pleasures, sorcery, and witchcraft.
WHO WILL YOU SERVE?
You are a spiritual being living in a body, but you have a soul. The soul is where satan enters and starts to influence you. That's why Peter, a Disciple and Christian follower of Jesus, could manifest a demon and speak something that Jesus said was satan himself talking. He was looking at Peter, and He said, "Get behind me, satan." He had followed Jesus for years. Jesus spent all night praying before He chose Peter, and He chose His Disciples after prayer. He chose Judas after prayer. Look what happened Judas betrayed Jesus. Peter was constantly putting his foot in his mouth and continuously being corrected, yet he was one of the Twelve.
